Born to a singer and an oilman in Iowa, Susan moved as an infant to Wichita, Kansas with her parents. As a proud Southeast High Mighty Golden Buffalo, Susan sang and performed in theater while preparing for college. Today, Susan is a Wichita State Shocker through and through having not only graduated from that university with a major in communications, but having later worked at her alma mater as associate director for the Wichita State Alumni Association. She would go on to serve as President of the WSU National Alumni Association.
Following her time at Wichita State University, she returned to the private sector working with small business owners as a Senior Vice President at Emprise Bank. After fifteen years of helping others grow their businesses, Susan left the bank and, not long thereafter, opened her own small business.
Susan’s commitment to giving back to the community that has so blessed her is deep. She continues her involvement at Wichita State and in Delta Gamma Fraternity. She has served on numerous charitable organization boards lending to each of them her talent and energy. This includes service as a board member of the Wichita Art Museum, the Wichita Symphony and Music Theater of Wichita. Susan also made a major commitment to the education of children that most need help serving as the President of Communities in Schools, an organization dedicated to keeping children in school through their high school graduation.
In addition to these activities, Susan has always maintained a focus on her family and her faith. Raising Nicholas – and rounding up Mike! – is her proudest achievement. She has served as President of multiple school parent boards and led numerous fundraising efforts to benefit schools. She has also done many good works at church, has led Sunday school classes and headed up an adult ministry.
Having begun volunteer campaign work during her college years, Susan has worked to make sure talented, honest and effective leaders attain public office. She is a current Board of Governor member, and former President, of the Eisenhower Excellence in Public Service Series, a statewide effort to involve more Republican women in politics. She is today a member of the Kansas Republican Party state committee and was, in addition to being an elected precinct committeewoman, a member of the Kansas Republican Party District 4 Steering Committee.
An avid sports fan (especially Shocker sports), Susan plays tennis, reads and attends music theater for fun.
