Mike’s opponent, Mr. Tiahrt, has unabashedly defended earmarks throughout his campaign. Mike has a fundamentally different view of how government should work. He wants the government out of your way.
Mike wants President Obama to get out of our way.
Mike believes that wealth redistribution doesn’t work. He doesn’t want President Obama redistributing your money – or a former congressman of 16 years like Mr. Tiahrt – redistributing your money.
Mike has confidence that if your money is left in your pocket, you’ll use it better than any politician could.
Mr. Tiahrt’s Claims About Earmarks Mislead
Mr. Tiahrt believes that earmarks are how Kansas gets its share of the loot. Earmarks don’t increase spending, he says, they just spread the wealth back to Kansas. He says that if there aren’t earmarks, Congress is handing all the money-spending power to the president. (Note to Mr. Tiahrt: There is a third option – If you hadn’t taken all the money to Washington, D.C., in the first place, Kansans would be able to spend it themselves.)
Mr. Tiahrt waves his hands and tells you to look at all the good things – like flood control projects and jungle gyms – that “he” brought to Kansas and claims that they could not have happened if he did not get that money from D.C. for you. That’s just wrong.
Earmarks Are for Big-Government Believers
Sadly, it’s not just big-government Democrats that want to take money from you so they can have more power… Big-government Republicans think the same thing. Read the following quotes and see if you can find any difference:
I know it’s hard to believe, but it’s true. There are Republicans who share the view of Senator Reid and Representative Pelosi on earmarks, that the more money that goes to Washington, D.C., the better off you will be.
Mike Pompeo is NOT one of those Republicans.
The Truth About Earmarks: Obamacare Passed Because Earmarks Were In It
So, did Mr. Tiahrt bring some money back to Kansas? Yes. Did some of his friends benefit? Sure. Is this good for Kansas, freedom, liberty, our economy, and our country? No chance.
A few facts:
And, of course, Mr. Tiahrt didn’t only earmark money for Kansas. Nope. He was hard at work as a wealth redistributor all across our great nation:
Why Did Earmarks Exist? To Get Government Into Everything in Your Life
Some of Mr. Tiahrt’s earmarks were “only” for a few hundred thousand dollars. Others were for several million. But, again, that misses the point. Here’s an example:
In 2007, Mr. Tiahrt voted for an earmark of $225,000 for the Brown Mansion in Coffeyville, Kansas. That’s not such a bad project. The real corruption is that Mr. Tiahrt traded his vote for that spending bill of over $27 billion. That’s right, he was told something like, “you can have your project if you’ll vote for our gargantuan, nightmare spending bill.” Bad for Kansans.
It’s Your Money, Not The Federal Government’s
Mike will never vote for an earmark. He’ll never vote to bring earmarks back to Washington, D.C. Mr. Tiahrt has vowed he will do both. Why on earth would your congressman advocate to take more of your money to D.C. and then make you beg him to get some of it back? When Mike was a soldier, he patrolled the then-East German border. He observed firsthand what happens when ordinary people are stripped of their freedom because the government has all of the resources and all of the power. The only way to survive is to play the political game and hope you get back your share. We’re closer to that here in America today than we should be. Mike will fight every day to bring us back from the tragedy that has befallen so many countries.
Voting begins this week. Vote for a smaller government, not an earmarking one.
Vote for Mike.
Pompeo for Congress
In case you missed it…
