U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, has gained broad support from the local aviation community in his bid for re-election.
A letter from his campaign, which touts some of Pompeo’s aviation-related achievements in Congress, includes the names of nearly 70 local executives with ties to the industry who have signed on in support.
The list includes Larry Lawson, CEO ofSpirit AeroSystems Inc.; Scott Ernest, CEO of Textron Aviation; John O’Leary, vice president of engineering and head ofAirbus Americas Engineering in Old Town; and John Dieker, vice president of strategic projects at Bombardier Learjet.
Pompeo, the former head of local aviation supplier Thayer Aerospace (now HM Dunn Aerospace), has been an advocate for the aviation industry during his time in Congress, including his introduction last year of the Small Airplane Revitalization Act.
That bill, which helped make Pompeo one of the WBJ’s Newsmakers in 2013, was signed into law by President Obama in November.
