Conservatives Continue to Rally Around Businessman
Republican congressional candidate Mike Pompeo commented today on Senator Susan Wagle’s announcement that instead of running for Congress herself, she is endorsing Republican Mike Pompeo.
“I really am humbled today to have garnered the support of someone with the conservative credentials of Susan Wagle,” Pompeo stated. “Senator Wagle has long stood for fiscal responsibility in the Kansas legislature, and I know the people of Kansas are going to be served well by her remaining in that important role,” Pompeo continued.
This is just the latest in a long list of endorsements received by the Pompeo campaign. In addition to Senator Wagle, Pompeo has been endorsed by State Senator Carolyn McGinn, Wichita City Councilwoman Sue Schlapp, former White House official Matt Schlapp, State Representatives Phil Hermanson and Aaron Jack, and former Republican candidate for Governor Richard Peckham.
Extensive support from business and community leaders has been received as well. The list includes Nestor Weigand, Fred Berry, Dave Murfin, Gayle Malone, Jack Pelton, Jeff Turner, Pack St. Clair, Mike Michaelis, Charlie Chandler, John Clevenger and Jack DeBoer among many others.
“Susan Wagle is the latest in a long list of people respected throughout south central and southeast Kansas who share my concern about the direction of the nation. They know that conservatives must unite now so that we can elect a solid voice in our battle to save our economy and protect ourselves from an exploding national debt and a government that is encroaching not just on the rights of our states, but the rights of individuals as well,” Pompeo stated.
“While I know this campaign will be won by hard work, on the ground, voter-by-voter and that endorsements alone will not win this campaign, I am thrilled by the breadth and depth of support that this list of leaders represents,” said Pompeo.
“As the last financial reporting showed, national Democrats are committed to electing a liberal to this seat. They want someone who will cast a vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and who will support President Obama’s agenda. We cannot let that happen, so I am asking all conservatives to follow the lead of Susan Wagle and join our team today,” Pompeo concluded.
The most recent financial reports filed with the Federal Election Commission show Democrat Raj Goyle having raised more than $400,000, with much of it coming from outside of Kansas. The report showed Pompeo far outdistancing all other Republican candidates, having raised more than $350,000.
Currently the President of Sentry International, Pompeo lives in Wichita with his wife Susan. Their son, Nick, is a freshman in college. After graduating first in his class from West Point and serving his country overseas, Pompeo moved to Wichita where he was a founding partner of Thayer Aerospace, a leading sub-contractor in the aerospace industry.
