Calls on Democrat Representative Raj Goyle to sign Taxpayer Protection Pledge
Republican businessman Mike Pompeo signed the Americans For Tax Reform’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge to oppose any tax increases and challenged the likely Democrat nominee and current state legislator, Raj Goyle to do the same.
“This is a very simple pledge,” Pompeo stated. “I am saying that I will oppose any efforts to increase federal taxes and that I will oppose any reduction in tax deductions unless they are offset by other tax reductions,” Pompeo stated.
“The only way to stop the expansive growth of government is to stop feeding it. We need fiscal responsibility in Congress, and that is one of the primary reasons I am running for office,” Pompeo stated.
“As a state legislator, Mr. Goyle has had the opportunity to sign this same pledge, but has not done so. I want voters to know where Representative Goyle stands and urge him to either sign the pledge or publicly repudiate it,” Pompeo continued.
“As visitors to my website, as well as the many who have visited with me during the campaign, have found, I want voters to know where I stand on important issues. Whether it is my opposition to government run health care, my opposition to cap and trade, or my support for a strong military, I promise to be upfront with voters about my positions and urge other candidates to do the same,” Pompeo concluded.
The Taxpayer Protection Pledge reads,
“I, Michael R. Pompeo, pledge to the taxpayers of the 4th district of the state of Kansas, and to the American people that I will:
ONE, oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses; and
TWO, oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”
