Tiahrt-Hartman Campaign Reaches New Low
Congressman Pompeo Has Been a Consistent, Fierce Critic and Frontline Fighter Against Obamacare
WICHITA—Today, the Tiahrt-Hartman campaign released two more negative TV attack ads targeting Rep. Mike Pompeo. This time, they rehash Mr. Tiahrt’s old, patently false argument that Rep. Pompeo supports Obamacare. Kansas voters deserve better than a 16-year congressman-turned-lobbyist trying to fool them. They know better, too.
The ads claim that Rep. Pompeo supports Obamacare. This claim, if Obamacare were not such a serious disaster, would be laughable. Here is the growing proof of the falsity of the Tiahrt-Hartman claim:
In a recent article, the Wichita Eagle said the claim was not accurate. Chapman Rackaway, a political science professor at Fort Hays State University, is quoted in the article: “Tiahrt is playing free and loose with what constitutes Obamacare here.”
Kansans for Life fights hard against Obamacare and has endorsed Rep. Pompeo over Mr. Tiahrt. Why would they do that if Pompeo supported Obamacare? The answer—they would not.
The Club For Growth and FreedomWorks, two groups leading the national conservative fight against Obamacare, have endorsed Rep. Pompeo over Mr. Tiahrt. Why would they do that that if Rep. Pompeo supported Obamacare? The answer—they would not.
Governor Mike Huckabee also recently endorsed Rep. Pompeo for re-election, describing Pompeo as “the true conservative in this race” and praising his “solid pro-life record” and “his strong opposition to Obamacare.”
Under the Tiahrt-Hartman theory that claims Rep. Pompeo supports Obamacare, every member of the Kansas House delegation – Reps. Huelskamp, Jenkins, and Yoder – would ALL be deemed Obamacare supporters. Really, every member of the most conservative delegation in the entire country is a “closet” Obamacare supporter? Simply not true.
Finally, Rep. Pompeo has been tested on this issue: he has voted over 50 times to defund or repeal Obamacare.
“Everyone, including Mr. Tiahrt and Mr. Hartman, knows that Mike has always fought against Obamacare and its job-crushing regulations,” said Jim Richardson, campaign manager. “In fact, Mr. Tiahrt has yet to clarify what he meant when he told the Butler County Times-Gazette ‘Some provisions in Obamacare should remain…’
Mr. Richardson added, “These two candidates are very different. Mr. Tiahrt is focused on distorting the record through innuendo and implication. Rep. Pompeo is focused on repealing Obamacare once and for all.”
Mike Pompeo is a longtime job creator in Kansas, having grown companies in the aviation and oil and gas industries. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Pompeo was elected to the United States Congress in his first political campaign in 2010. He and his wife, Susan, live in Wichita.
Mike has already been endorsed by the National Rifle Association, Kansas Farm Bureau, Kansans for Life, the National Right to Life Committee, Family Research Council Action PAC, Club for Growth PAC, FreedomWorks, Tea Party Nation, the US. Chamber of Commerce, Governor Huckabee, Governor Brownback, Senator Moran, and Senator Roberts. He also has been recognized as a leading conservative voice by Americans for Prosperity, the American Conservative Union, National Taxpayers Union, Citizens Against Government Waste, Heritage Action, Americans for Tax Reform, and Family Research Council.
