EMPORIA, KS – Kansas 4th District Congressman-elect Mike Pompeo honored veterans today during a Veterans Day celebration in Emporia.
“Veterans Day is a time to thank those who have served; it is also a time to remember the hundreds of thousands of young Americans in uniform who are today voluntarily risking their lives and their futures in defense of our nation and its freedoms,” said Pompeo.
“As a former soldier who entered service during a time when our nation’s warriors faced far fewer risks than those who enter today, I stand in awe as our armed forces continue to benefit from talented young men and women who begin their service knowing that they will serve in some of the most dangerous and volatile places on earth. These heroes willingly placing themselves in harm’s way to ensure that Americans will never be forced to bend their knees before those who would deprive us of the freedoms our ancestors fought and died to preserve.”
Pompeo, who served in the U.S. Army from 1986 to 1991, addressed a group of American Legion members and others gathered for the Veterans Day celebration at Emporia’s All Veterans Memorial.
“I am honored to have been elected by voters in the 4th District to once again serve this nation. As a new member of Congress, I will fight to ensure we never lose sight of the sacrifices our nation’s heroes have given to protect our freedoms,” Pompeo pledged.
