WICHITA, KS – The campaign for Republican businessman and veteran Mike Pompeo today released a polling memo from the campaign’s pollster revealing that Pompeo has taken the lead in the Republican primary for Congress in Kansas’ Fourth Congressional District.
“We’re very pleased with the steady progress we have made,” stated Pompeo campaign manager Rodger Woods. “It’s really a testament to the voters that they have not let Wink Hartman buy this election,” Woods stated. “It is also proof that our more than 1200 volunteers are making a difference. We are being outspent on television by hundreds of thousands of dollars, yet we are still ahead and on our way to victory.”
The polling memo included data from previous surveys conducted in both December of 2009 and May of this year. The tracking information shows that while Hartman took the lead when he was the only candidate spending money on television ads from the time of the winter Olympics in February until May of this year, his numbers have crashed since that time. The poll shows that the other two candidates, Jim Anderson and Jean Schodorf, have not seen any substantial change in their support in the last eight months.
“Our numbers build on the recent Survey USA numbers that showed us in the lead,” Woods continued. “Certainly, Hartman’s internal polling is showing the same trends. This explains why his campaign has decided to so viciously and falsely attack Mike Pompeo’s record as a successful businessman. His third blistering ad is now running and he has now spent almost a million dollars of his own money and, yet, the voters have not been fooled,” Woods stated. “While I hope I am wrong, this poll seems to indicate that we can expect more desperate attacks by Hartman as he tries to salvage his floundering campaign.”
