WICHITA, KS – The Pompeo for Congress campaign today responded to the second attack since Wink Hartman began running television ads touting his ‘Clean Campaign Pledge’.
“In light of the Hartman campaign’s attack laced response, it is clear that Mr. Hartman refuses to take his clean campaign pledge seriously. Instead, he is more interested in scoring political points than giving voters an opportunity to hear from the candidates,” stated Pompeo campaign manager Rodger Woods. “Kansas voters are deserving of the opportunity to learn more about the leading candidates in the 4th District Congressional race and get substantive answers on serious questions facing Kansans and our country today.”
“Instead of giving voters a real chance to see the differences between the candidates, Wink Hartman clearly intends to try to buy this election with 30 second commercials,” said Woods.
The Pompeo campaign did not attempt to exclude other candidates “from upcoming forums,” as inaccurately stated by the Hartman campaign. In fact, Mr. Pompeo has committed to participate with all candidates in the Kingman County Forum on August 1st, the Sedgwick County Farm Bureau forum on July 22nd and the Republican Women’s event on July 17th.
To date, 12 candidate forums have been held. Mike Pompeo and all other candidates* have attended every forum. Wink Hartman has not shown up for 25% of the candidate forums held thus far.
“Voters want and deserve more information. They deserve answers about Hartman’s residency, his unwillingness to tell the truth, and how he justifies his claim of being 100% pro-life even though he has publicly supported taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. For Hartman to hide behind other candidates as his excuse for not engaging in the free-exchange of ideas is unconscionable,” said Woods. Woods had made the suggestion that the two candidates debate each other after results of a recent KWCH-Survey USA poll show that 75% of the voters are inclined to vote for Mr. Hartman or Mr. Pompeo.
“We still want voters to see the differences between Mike Pompeo and Wink Hartman and we’ll meet Hartman to debate anywhere. Given his track record, however, we believe he will find someone else to hide behind, or some other reason to avoid debating the issues with Mike Pompeo,” Woods concluded.
*=Jean Schodorf was unable to attend the April 26 forum due to a vote in the Kansas legislature that evening.
