Pompeo Focuses on Jobs and Economy During Debate
BELLE PLAINE, KS – Mike Pompeo discussed both the challenges and opportunities facing America tonight as the Republican candidates for the 4th Kansas Congressional District participated in the second candidate forum of the year.
“The political elites in Washington have lost their way,” Pompeo said. “We have 1.4 trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see.” Relating to his experiences as a small business owner, Pompeo went on to discuss the harmful impact of government regulation and growing taxes on job growth.
On the 37th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, the panel was asked about taxpayer funding of abortion. “The issue of protecting human life from conception to natural death is important.” Pompeo stated. He went on to caution, “We need to send someone to Congress from the 4th District of Kansas who can understand the complexity and deal effectively with these issues.”
In response to a question about the treatment of foreign terrorists, Pompeo, the only candidate with a record of military service, responded, “I’ve spent several hundred hours training for exactly what you do when you capture a prisoner. It’s got nothing to do with Miranda rights. It has nothing to do with making sure they have ten cents to call their lawyer. It has everything to do with protecting America.”
It was the second time the Republican candidates gathered together on the same stage to talk about the economic, domestic and international issues and problems currently facing Americans. The four candidates debated for more than 70 minutes on questions that were submitted by the audience.
