Pompeo Comments on Rising Unemployment

WICHITA, KS – Businessman, military veteran and 4th District Congressional Republican nominee Mike Pompeo issued the following statement on the rising unemployment rate in the latest report from the U.S. Department of Labor.  This marks 13 consecutive months when the national unemployment rate has been at or near double digits.

“I am deeply concerned about the report showing the unemployment rate in America for August rose to 9.6%,” Pompeo said.  “In reality, that number is more likely at 15 or 16 percent when you consider the number of people who have given up on finding a good job.”

“The out of control spending and liberal regulatory policies of President Obama and Speaker Pelosi are destroying jobs.  Increased corporate taxes, capital gains taxes and Obamacare are creating uncertainties for businesses that want to expand and hire more workers.  Those business owners aren’t sure about the future costs of hiring employees.”

On Friday, the Labor Department said most of the job losses recorded last month came from 114,000 temporary government census positions came to an end.

“We must get the federal government out of the way,” continued Pompeo.  “The federal government needs to create an environment that will allow companies to grow their business in Kansas.  We need to repeal Obamacare, reduce taxes on businesses and get new leadership in Washington who understands what it takes to get our economy growing again.”

“I know the challenges Kansas businesses are facing having spent the past 15 years creating jobs in the 4th District of Kansas.  My opponent has never created a job and he’s trying desperately to distance himself from his liberal record on taxes and big government, but he can’t deny it.  These are tough economic times and we need a Congressman who will stand up for Kansans and fight to end the bloated spending habits of the federal government.  We cannot afford to send a politician to Washington who supports the failed economic agenda of President Obama and Nancy Pelosi that kills American jobs.”
