The big question: Where is it? Last year's elected officials campaigned and won on providing us with a completely transparent government. So far, we've gotten lots of eloquent talk, but absolutely no light on crucial decisions, some of which—like health care—could impact one-sixth of our national economy. How can politicians vote on bills they will not have a chance to read; and how can an American electorate become truly informed without full disclosure?
Do they think we're stupid? This is, after all, the most well-informed populace in a century. The back-door deals, the closed-session machinations have left us slack-jawed. Old-guard Capitol Hill behavior is exactly what most of us voted against. Even the most neophyte voter can see that fair play and justice simply are not there, especially during an economic downturn when jobs and providing for the family have taken center stage in a boiling global drama. Change is what the American people voted for...but it wasn't the change we're seeing in Washington.
You in this great state of Kansas deserve better. As a candidate for the 4th Congressional District seat, I pledge to inform you of every critical issue which will impact you individually and collectively. I intend to go to Washington as a statesman, not as a politician. I will communicate with you face-to-face during townhall meetings; one-to-one when possible. I will visit you through e-mails, letters, facebook and twitter. I will come home often, and my door will always be open. You will be as well informed as I. I will not be a “Hill” politician. Kansas is my home and I will represent you. Together we will make things happen, the right way.
